🔬 A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Innovation at ADM!
A huge thank you to Bruce Nielsen and Katie Stanley from ADM’s Research & Development team for an incredible tour of their labs and for sharing their time, knowledge, and career experiences with our CEO students!
Here’s a fun fact: Every single day, we are likely eating or drinking something that contains ingredients produced by ADM! And after today’s visit, our students have a much better understanding of just how much innovation goes into the products we use every day.
We had the opportunity to go behind the scenes and see some of the latest cutting-edge equipment, technology, and processes. From extracting natural colors to developing soy proteins and producing sugars from corn, it was fascinating to see the science and innovation behind so many everyday ingredients!
One of the most impressive parts of our tour was walking through a hallway showcasing hundreds of patents representing ADM’s research, discoveries, and innovations. What an incredible reminder of the ingenuity happening right here in Decatur!
Beyond the science, Bruce and Katie shared valuable lessons about their career journeys and reminded our students that career paths are rarely a straight line. Sometimes the unexpected turns lead to the greatest opportunities!
Katie shared a piece of advice that really resonated:
💡 “Look for a need and fill it.”
Taking initiative, recognizing opportunities, and finding ways to add value are what will set you apart as an employee and as a leader.
Bruce left us with three simple but powerful reminders that apply to absolutely anything you do in life:

Visits like this are exactly why I love the CEO program. Our students get to see firsthand the incredible businesses, innovation, and career opportunities right here in our own backyard, while learning life lessons from the people who make it all happen.
